- Try to blend in when you join a forum. Take some time and read through the posts. Get a feel for the atmosphere and attitude portrayed in existing posts. Then try to write like they do so that they will feel like your are part of the group immediately.
- Ensure that your posts give sound advice based on your knowledge and expertise of a subject. If you don’t know the answer, research it and provide the answer or solution. By posting thoughtful, knowledgeable or helpful tips and advice, you will earn other posters’ respect and admiration.
- Try to start posts that will be talked about or that may be an in-demand topic. Then give your related tips and techniques. Try to write an eye-catching title that will make people want to open the thread and participate. Never mislead anyone.
- Do not use the forums as a place to sell or promote your products or services. That’s why you have a sig file. If a member asks a question directly in the thread and you have the information, product or service on your site, that at that time it may be appropriate to subtly mention it. Make the tone of the post helpful and not promotional.
- Be polite at all times. Show appreciation to other members who may have helped you. After all not only is forum marketing a way to build relations that can provide revenue, it is also a way to gain knowledge and information to better your business.
