What Is Your USP?
What is a USP? USP stands for Unique Selling Proposition – If you don’t have one then you need to develop one soon. You want this to be something your customers and prospects pick up on easily, especially in email communications.
Your USP is what makes your company, product or service stand out from your competition. It could be providing the best solution to a problem, the best way to fulfill a need or desire or the best way to achieve a goal. It could be that you are the most creative or least expensive (we don’t advocate this), maybe the best in class. Whatever it is, you need to make it clear.
Here are a few tips to writing your USP:
- Come up with the 3 biggest benefits of owning your product or service.
- Be unique and different from your competitors.
- Solve a problem or performance gap.
- Make sure when you are finished your USP is clear and concise.
- Keep it short.
- Ensure that what you have written you are capable of delivering.
A few examples of excellent USP’s are:
- M&M’s: They melt in your mouth, not in your hands.
- Burger King: Have it your way
- Federal Express: When it absolutely, positively has to be there overnight.
There you have it a few quick tips and some fine examples. Now get busy and write your unique selling proposition.
